The Project-Based Learning to Enhance Key Competences course introduces you to two key concepts that can help you shift your teaching to an engaging and effective learning process. The course will help you to implement a project-based learning (PBL) approach in your classroom so as to develop key competences for lifelong learning, such as entrepreneurship, digital competence, citizenship, and others.

We will start with a reflection process about the period of remote teaching during the COVID-19 pandemic, so as to understand how PBL can be an effective method in online, blended, and face-to-face settings and should be seen as mechanism to take lessons learnt from this period into the new school year.

We will also investigate the different components of a PBL approach, such as student collaboration or student agency, and how they can help us to address some of the key competences for lifelong learning. Furthermore, we will be sharing tools and strategies that can help us to implement a PBL approach and discuss how best to assess PBL.

As part of the course, you will be working on your own PBL scenario for implementation in your classroom, which should set you on a good path to try out this inspiring method once the course comes to an end.

In this course, you will:

  • Reflect on your teaching practices used during the remote teaching period because of the COVID-19 pandemic
  • Explore project-based learning as an effective method to teach in remote, blended and in-class environments
  • Understand the purpose, process and assessment of project-based learning
  • Discover how the different components of project-based learning can support the development of key competences
  • Explore tools and strategies for implementing project-based learning in your classroom
  • Plan for the implementation of a project-based learning scenario in your classroom

 

This course is based on the work of the Pedagogical Advisory Board. You can follow it at your own pace; we will open one module at the beginning of each week, but the only deadline you need to pay attention to is in the last module. The language of communication is English.

Duration

The course runs for 5,5 weeks with a total number of 4 modules (one module per week), including 1.5 grace week at the end of the course. The estimated workload is 3-4 hours per week.

Target audience

The course targets any classroom practitioner who wants to develop their students’ key competences by implementing project-based learning in their (online) classroom. This course provides an introduction to the topic.

Certification

You will receive a course badge and a course certificate upon completion of the full course: this means you have to visit all sections and complete the final peer assessment activity before the deadline.
